The road looked real cool from the point I thought
we would have smooth sailing all the way through to hwy 20, after heading down the road for a few more miles I started realizing that we were headed for more snow than I thought would be on the road,
I could see the snow on the mountain that I knew we would have to cross
, but joked with the guys about having MRE food rations and water. Also I had Frito's for starting a fire if we broke down. (Frito's are the best fire starter ever, everyone should have a bag of Frito's corn chips in there survival gear) I had to stop and take a picture of a bird that kept circling above on the distance.
I love the freedom a bird has, and all we can do is dream of soaring.
After a few more miles we started to see snow on the road
. I jumped out and took a couple pictures in both directions.
Then i jumped back in and headed on thinking no problem. We had kinda got into talking about exploring and I suppose I wasn't paying close attention, because the next thing I know we are sliding around in the snow, I had to get out and put it onto 4 wheel drive. It was about six to nine inches in the deep spots and only a couple inches in the good spots, so I of course had to keep Trying to make it so I gas it and made about another 1/2 Mile before I decided to put it in 4x4 low
. I thought it would help
but to no avail it bogged pretty good and I finally stopped to think about how stuck I should get us. I pushed it one more time trying to get to a really big rock that was by the road. I figured it would make as good as any for a lunch spot.
We almost made it, but I stopped about fifty to a hundred feet short. We all bailed out of the truck.
This is what it looked behind us back to the southern direction.
I knew that I would have to come back in a few more weeks to be able to cross the rest of Bennett Mountain all the way to hwy 20 so I could say that I finished this section of the Idaho Centennial Trail, the next would be up a road called Castle Rock road; This was a beautiful day and I was very grateful to come this far with two of my best friends.
And I think we all had a good day.
( Always carry a emergency blanket )
to be continued in Idaho Centennial Trail 7
